Discipline

by SYMBO

A soldier is very much disciplined in the presence of his commander. He stands as straight and as stiff as a flagpole with minimal movement. He obeys every command, from shooting their enemies to being told to sit down. Every question answerable by yes or no, he answers respectfully with a booming "SIR, YES SIR!"
However... When his officers are not around, he's a totally different person. He makes fun of his teammates. He is fond of shouting swear words. He forgets about standing straight, and even sitting down. He is constantly in motion, performing any nasty but pleasing-to-do things he can think of, mostly to his fellow soldiers. He will try to do everything he can to get some laughs.

A student, when in front of a teacher, shows good behavior. She listens intently to what the teacher sais. She participates in the discussions, sharing her ideas and thoughts on topics that she thinks need clarification or that she thinks there is something wrong with. The way she speaks when participating in class is very humble. She rarely speaks to her seatmates about topics unrelated to the subject-matter being discussed by the teacher. She is appreciated very much by the teacher for her discipline. Outside of the school... She spends time with her friends. As her friends backstab the teacher and make fun of their classmates, she remains respectful. She even tries to tell them not to be too harsh with their words about other people. She does this in the same manner she speaks to her teacher, in a humble and kind way. At home, with her family, she remains the same. She treats her parents and siblings with the same discipline she shows her teacher. Even with that much kindness in her, she still manages to make other people smile, laugh, and enjoy her presence.

Two kinds of discipline were discussed. One is real discipline, and the other is "discipline" that is driven by fear. Which is which?
